Galentine’s Weekend in Prescott: How to Plan a Girls’ Trip on the River

One place for everyone, brunch flights, boutiques and chocolate in Hudson, and a paint-and-sip night: a girls' weekend on the river.

Some of my favorite weekends we host all year happen in mid-February, when a group of friends books a stay, shows up with matching pajamas and a bag of snacks, and spends two days laughing, eating and shopping their way up and down the river. Galentine’s Day was made for this.

In 2027, Galentine’s Day falls on Saturday, February 13, which makes it a perfect weekend for a girls’ trip. Here’s how I’d plan it from Prescott: one place for everyone, a big brunch, boutiques and chocolate in Hudson, a paint-and-sip or a spa morning, and a cozy night in.

Your Galentine’s Weekend at a Glance

  • Friday night: Check in together, then dinner on Broad Street
  • Saturday morning: Brunch at The Kitchen Table, or wood-fired brunch at Villa Bellezza in Pepin
  • Saturday afternoon: Boutiques, chocolate and a private shopping party in Hudson
  • Saturday evening: A paint-and-sip class, then a night in
  • Sunday: Sleep in, coffee in the loft at Twisted Oak, and one last walk by the river

1. Book One Place for Everyone

The best girls’ trips happen when everyone’s under one roof. In Prescott, that’s what our places are built for. The Cove Guest House has four condos together in one spot, so a bigger group can share the fun and still get a good night’s sleep. For a smaller group, The Port puts you right downtown, a short walk from dinner and brunch. Either way, you’ll have a home base to come back to, with no one driving home.

2. Friday Night: Dinner on Broad Street

Kick things off at Two Rivers Lodge, a rustic lodge-style spot on the river with trains rolling past the windows. Order the Ellsworth cheese curds for the table, and whoever doesn’t get the cranberry turkey Brie sandwich will regret it. Every cocktail on the menu can be made as a mocktail, so everyone’s included. Save room for the one-pound Paul Bunyan Carrot Cake, with a fork for every friend.

3. Saturday Brunch: Two Ways

The Kitchen Table, Prescott

The Kitchen Table is where Prescott eats breakfast, and it’s made for groups who like to laugh. Start with a Bloody Flight or a Coffee Flight to share, and ask about their breakfast shots. It’s a bit of a tradition here. Then order a mix for the table: the Lobster and Asparagus Benny, the Hot Mother Clucker and a stack of Birthday Cake Pancakes because it’s Galentine’s. It’s walk-in only, so for a big group, go early. More in my Kitchen Table guide.

Villa Bellezza, Pepin

If your group wants to feel like it ran away to Italy for the morning, drive about an hour down the river road to Villa Bellezza. Weekend brunch runs from 10 to 2, the wine is made right there, and in winter they heat the porticos around the piazza and drape the chairs in fur. It feels like a little European village, and it makes for gorgeous photos. If your group loves to cook, ask about La Scuola, their cooking school, which includes a meal.

4. Shop Small in Hudson

Downtown Hudson, about 30 minutes north, is a girls’-trip dream: Second Street and Locust Street are lined with boutiques in old brick buildings. Here’s my route:

  • et cetera: Home decor, gifts, women’s apparel and jewelry, open since 1997. Here’s the secret: they host private shopping events for groups of friends, with wine, cheese and a discount. Call ahead and book one for your crew.
  • La Rue Marché: women’s apparel, shoes and accessories.
  • Mainstream Boutique: locally owned women’s clothing.
  • La Vie Est Belle: a gift boutique that also hosts events and classes.
  • Rose and Lavender: gifts and home decor.
  • BackRoom Vintage: vintage finds, refinished furniture, jewelry and gifts.
  • Knoke’s Chocolates and Nuts: handmade truffles and English toffee. Pick up a box for each friend.

5. Pamper or Paint

A spa morning

In downtown Hudson, a’la Mode Salon Spa is a full-service Aveda salon and day spa. Book early for a Saturday in February, especially for a group.

A paint-and-sip night

Cheers Pablo in Hudson runs two- to three-hour painting classes where no experience is needed, all the supplies are included and you take your painting home. They’re open until 9 on Saturdays, and a group class is the kind of thing you’ll laugh about for years. Check their online calendar to book.

6. A Cozy Night In

Sometimes the best part of a girls’ trip is the night in. Before you head back to Prescott, pick up a puzzle or a game at Chapter2Books in Hudson and a box of truffles at Knoke’s. Then get in your comfiest clothes, put on a movie and let the conversation go late. If you want dinner without going back out, Prescott Tap’s handmade pizzas are an easy pick. And if you brought your own bottle of wine, this is the time to open it.

Good to Know Before You Go

  • Book early: February 13 is a Saturday in 2027, and mid-February weekends fill up, both for stays and for spa and class bookings.
  • Pick a driver for the trip to Hudson or Pepin, or plan a weekend you can do mostly on foot in downtown Prescott.
  • Sunday morning: Take your coffee up to the loft at the Twisted Oak, then walk up to Freedom Park to see the eagles over the open water.
  • More winter fun: See what else is happening in my winter events guide.
